About Car Rental at Seattle Airport

Seattle Tacoma International Airport, commonly known as Sea-Tac, serves approximately 110 domestic and international destinations. The airport is about 14 miles south of downtown Seattle and serves as a hub for both Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines. This airport has grown in popularity and passenger volume in recent years, prompting the Port of Seattle to construct a new 450,000-square-foot International Arrivals Facility (IAF). Visitors may also anticipate better eating, shopping, and vehicle rental options.

However, once you've got your fill of the airport, there's much to see and do in the city. Many first-time and return visitors to Seattle choose to hire a vehicle at Sea-Tac airport for a stress-free experience. Luckily, there are plenty of automobile rental firms right at the airport. As you depart the arrivals area, board one of the shuttle buses that operate around the clock on the south and north sides of the main terminal to the car rental facility, which is situated at 3150 S 160th St, SeaTac, WA 98188. The rental vehicle facility is roughly an 8-minute drive from the airport. You have a choice of 14 vehicle rental providers, including Alamo, Sixt, and National.

Downtown Car Rental in Seattle

Whether you're bringing your family on a once-in-a-lifetime vacation or just visiting Seattle with your spouse or pals for a few days, you'll want to experience the whole city at its finest. Car rental is an excellent option to see as much as possible without compromising on comfort. If you didn't hire a vehicle at the airport, don't panic; the city offers a number of car rental agencies. Most of them are centered in the Belltown region of downtown Seattle. The advantage of renting a vehicle outside of the airport is that you typically have the option to support small companies rather than major brands if you so want.

Driving in Seattle

When driving in Seattle, there are a few things you should know before you get behind the wheel. The city's rush hour runs from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Weekends are frequently quite hectic. The I-405 and I-5 are two interstate highways that receive a lot of traffic around this period.

Keep the following in mind as you drive around Seattle.

Parking is not an issue in the city since there are several garages and street-side parking places. Download the PaybyPhone app on your smartphone to identify your local location and even make mobile payments.

Car Rental Agencies in Seattle

Both the Seattle airport and downtown have a plethora of world-renowned car rental agencies. The benefit of working with one of these firms is that you can be certain that they will look after you. With thousands of positive ratings, these businesses work hard to ensure that their consumers are constantly satisfied. Not only that but there are a variety of cars to pick from, so you can be certain that you are obtaining precisely what you want. Avis, for example, provides a vast assortment of both cars and vans in a variety of shapes and sizes for you to pick from.

Local agencies, on the other hand, may not have the same variety as larger ones, but they are highly personal and will offer you all the local expertise you need to make your vacation the finest one yet.

Among the vehicle rental firms that serve Seattle are Enterprise, Alamo, Budget, Hertz, Sixt, Dollar, Thrifty, and National.

Top Road Trips from Seattle

Do you want to go camping? Lake Chelan is 198 miles or a 4-hour journey from Seattle. The lake features a lengthy beach with picnic tables where you may spend a day relaxing with friends or family. The Lake Chelan region also has a variety of activities ranging from moderate to wild. You may go fishing, speed boating, or boating, as well as hiking, bicycling, bird watching, animal viewing, or beach volleyball, depending on your interests. Don't forget to stop by the vineyards in the evening.

Long Beach is the place to go if you like the beach. Drive for around 3 hours to reach this 28-mile-long beach with two leisure zones. One example is Cape Disappointment State Park, where you can learn about the history of defensive batteries and military bunkers, stroll through freshwater lakes, and enjoy the breathtaking vistas. Leadbetter Point State Place is another park that you may explore. Here you may go bird watching and photograph brown pelicans, eagles, ducks, and terns. Long Beach is great for a quiet and pleasant weekend break.

Don't bother trying to avoid the toll roads, it's not worth it for the extra time it takes. I had a nice evening at the ballet watching the Nutcracker whilst I was in Seattle. The clam chowder at Pikes Place Market is not to be missed.

Take the bus to the car rental center after collecting the luggage. Some of the boots are not occupied at all time. In this case - step directly to the car's garage. People are there at all time. Remember to leave the key at the car. If you forgot them with you, you can still give them to the bus driver. Allow 20 to 30 min for traveling from the car rental center to the air port. Enjoy.

Do your research on cars, insurance, rental options, and take into account gas mileage, 4 wheel or all wheel drive, and trunk space when looking to rent a car for a trip. Make sure the car you rent matches the purpose of your trip and don't go with the cheapest option. The rental car company plays a part in this decision, there are cheap options but likely hidden fees or poor service. Rental cars can be a great part of the trip or a real hassle. Get it right and reserve it clearly.

my best recommendation is from above on improvements...when renting/picking up a vehicle be delivered by terminal bus. The location is more favorable for those who know and have been there, many times, than by a newbe who has no one idea and came by private car or possible even a Uber/Lyft. other than that a wonderful time was had by the Schaffer family of the Midwest.

Give yourself plenty of time. The rental facility is about a five minute shuttle ride from the airport. At peak times, the airport can be very busy and the TSA security can be slow. There are several nice places to eat in the airport. If you rent a car, I suggest you call the rental agency and remind them that you will be there at your reserved time. This may help you to avoid waiting for a car to become available.

So many great things to do in the SeaTac area! Pike's Place Market provides the characteristic shopping experience and it is entertaining. Only 1.5 hours to the ocean where you can find sand dollars, ride horses, and dip your feet in the water. Tide pools have a wide variety of sea life. Visit Fort Casey on Whidbey Island to get a taste of the coastal defenses and to enjoy the driftwood beaches. Take a ferry boat ride and get a chance to see the orcas. Hike on Mt Rainier, or fish in the Cascade Mountains. don't forget Mt. St. Helens volcanic region, and Crate Lake with its depths of blue. And who could miss the Seattle Science Center and Space Needle?

When traveling to Seattle, I often stay at a hotel airport at the beginning and/or end of the visit. Some of the hotels are in close proximity to the Airport Light Rail station, so I often skip the courtesy van, walk to the Light Rail Station, cross over the busy highway using the station overpass. It is a good way to stretch your legs after a long plane ride. The rental car facility is not really designed to be accessed by pedestrians, (Although I often do in nice weather). It is usually best to go back to the airport terminal and take the shuttle bus to the rental facility. The rental car facility system is designed for high volume, so shuttle buses seem to run almost continuously. Traffic can be very heavy around the airport, and Seattle in general, so I find it helpful to have someone help me navigate. If traveling alone, and unfamiliar with Seattle traffic, it would be wise to review the directions from the airport to your destination, so you can begin merging toward the correct exit lanes as early as possible. It seems to be easier to navigate using the highway signs when returning to the airport for departure. There are several 24 hour gas stations very near the Car Rental facility when returning your vehicle.

Always love the airport in Seattle, people always willing to help out a mother and the little one. Use to live in Washington state so I know how to navigate the airport. Only unfortunate is the car rental is a bus ride away from the airport. Easy to get on the bus and there is baggage people willing to help load and unload luggage. That’s an amazing accompaniment being a single mother and having to travel with a 10 month old.

A must do is the Bill Speidel's Underground tour. I learned a lot of history that my family who has resided in Seattle had not known. A ferry ride to Kingston and drive to Port Gamble to explore the town that is straight out of the late 1800's. Visit Snoqualmie Falls and hike down to the bottom at the river. It is worth every step! Don't forget to visit Pike's Market for eclectic merchants and amazing city and water views!

Seattle weather is often changeable, so take a mix of clothes and layer. Seattle has many sights that are hidden like Volunteer Park from which there are spectacular views of the city. Pike Place market is another well-known, but worthwhile gem to visit in downtown - it's the home of the original Starbucks store if you are interested. Taking a ferry across Puget Sound from downtown to Bainbridge Island affords some of the most spectacular views of the skyline - attractive on both rainy and even more so on sunny days, with Mt. Rainier thrown in as a bonus. North of the city in Everett is the Boeing plant which is absolutely worth a visit, and out of the city a trip up to Mt. Rainier or further south to the exploded volcano Mt. St. Helens are both spectacular. East of the city is in Woodinville are some of the state's finest wineries all offering tours and tasting (take a designated driver!). A visit to the Microsoft campus is a must for nerds and aspiring nerds alike... and a renting a canoe from the University waterfront activities centre (WAC) and paddling around the arboretum is a relaxing day out.

Airport was easy to get around in. Lots of food choices and not too expensive. A bit surprising that they do not seem to have Alaska listed as one of the airline choices when pulling up to the airport. Maybe we just missed it. Transportation to/from seems to be easy to access. We took a shuttle to the rental car place, but there seemed to be lots of other options as well.

SeaTac is as good as any airport, and better than some of the larger ones. Alaska is the biggest airline at SEATAC and their checkin process is OK, except for the long line to drop bags. Food available is OK, but not outstanding. TSA is crowded unless you are "pre-check", and then less than 5 minutes. Gates are well marked, and it is easy to get around. Rental car shuttle is frequent. Rental car building is quite efficient.

Seattle airport is kind of shabby and large. We felt we had to go through a maze to get to our baggage and then the shuttle bus. The signage is well marked however, so we did not get lost. There are restrooms in several places on each level which is a plus. The shuttle to the rental car area was quick on the way out and back. This was very nice and we did not have to wait at all. Do get there early for departure's the security at this airport had a lengthy line and it took at least 30 minutes to get through.

Avoid driving in Seattle as much as possible. Traffic and standstills terrible! Also be as early as possible at airport. There were thousands of people there on a Wednesday morning. Security lines were very, very long. Although I planned on 3 hrs. arriving at airport and then about 2 hrs to be at my gate, I ended up being at my gate only about 45 min before flight left.

Seattle is a wonderful city. During my 3 day stay (and I visit on a regular basis) I saw a terrific band at the Neptune, had excellent sushi at one of the many fine restaurants in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, went shopping in Ballard and... got two parking tickets. Only negative of the fun neighborhoods of Seattle is that nearby parking can be hard to come by - watch out!! Find a ramp or parking lot!

Be sure to arrive to the airport early and make sure your car rental time slot is within 2 hours of pick up or else your reservation gets bumped.

In Seattle, absolutely stay away from Interstate 5 during rush hour, as it is gridlock, I am originally from there and it has become unbearable from Everett past Tacoma. If you must travel during those hours, take the scenic highway 99 as far as you can, you will have stop lights but will travel at a regular pace.
