Renting cars from PHL airport has always been tricky for us. I would always prepay and triple check the deposit on your rental. This is the only airport I ever have any trouble EVEN WHEN I PREPAY.

For arriving passengers PHL does not offer much, but passport and immigration control was smooth. Departing passengers sometimes must wait in long lines for security control, but this changes during the day. PHL has very good highway connections with main cities in the area! With the rented car I've been visiting Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Lancaster and Cape May with no problems. City center of Philly is little crowded and may be congested during rush hours, but there is no problem with the parking spots (paid). A lot of things to do in the city and surroundings, especially historic places to visit. For newcomers: consider the season and the weather. Might be good taking umbrella with you.

The TSA was relatively quick and painless. The eating choices provided a nice variety. Every person at the airport that we interacted with was polite and helpful. Arriving two hours ahead of time was the perfect amount of time for our flight to LA. We didn't have to wait very long for a luggage to be unloaded from the plane. The kiosk for printing bag tags at Alaska was down, which was the only inconvenience.

Make sure you're in the correct place for bus transport. Do the upgrade to get extra features. Don't get the cheapest car on the lot. It won't have curse control or a good media interface. The people at the desk are really nice. Treat them with respect.

The number one tip is call sixt when you get your baggage. The rental car is not on the airport, which means allow extra time for when you expect to have to car ready. They don't have a ton of vans patrolling like other rental car companies, so a call will get your ride there and get you out faster. The drivers are kind and help with baggage as well as tips around Philly. The staff at the offices were polite and did a great job explaining the area including where to ge the best Cheesesteak while in town. Which is Jims Steaks on South St, but that ones up for debate.

Had to go into New York, there is a 15$ charge for cars! Make sure you have some cash on you. All fuel in the USA is pre pay, some pumps you have to put in a zip code, when visiting your overseas zip code does not work ( mine didn't from NZ) use 11111 that worked !

Go to Oregon Express restaurant for a great breakfast and the friendliest people in town. Go to a Phillies game and have dinner at Ocean Prime restaurant. The best steak ever!
