About Car Rental at Miami Airport

Vibrant and sun-kissed, it’s not hard to see why Miami is often described as a little corner of paradise. It is here that you will find plenty of sunshine, white sands, beautiful Art Deco architecture, and incredible food and nightlife. It’s glamourous yet breezy, energetic yet laid back, and, most importantly, it is a trip you will never forget.

To match the city’s effortless energy, we recommend hiring a car as soon as you can, so that you have the freedom to go wherever the wind takes you. There are many ways you can do this, and one way is by renting a car at the airport. Miami International Airport is the primary airport for the Miami area, and here you can find a range of 14 well-known companies such as Alamo, Budget, and Sixt, all located on site. Depending on what you are looking for, you will find a variety of high-quality and budget-friendly options to choose from.

Downtown Car Rental in Miami

If you’d like to wait before renting a car, then don’t worry, there are plenty of car rental companies downtown too. Many of the same larger rental companies have branches both in the airport and downtown, and you will also find many local businesses dotted around the city too. Because car rental in Miami is so popular, you’ll find that no matter where you are in the city you’ll never be too far from a pickup point. Hertz, for example, has 40 pickup locations situated across town. We recommend doing your research prior to your trip if you have a specific vehicle, deal, or location in mind however, so that you can guarantee it will be available at the time you want it.

Driving in Miami

Hopping in a car is one of the best ways to explore the beautiful streets of Miami. With pastel buildings lining the streets, ocean views around every turn, and famous Florida highways to cruise down, you’re going to love driving in and around this fantastic part of the United States. But, before you get behind the wheel do make sure to check out the local area’s rules, regulations, and laws to ensure the safety of yourself and everyone else around you.

Tips for driving in Miami:

Car Rental Agencies in Miami

As well as the car rental agencies available at the airport and in downtown Miami, you will find a handful of firms can pick customers up from the car rental lobby at the airport upon request. Included in this service are local, independent companies such as Miami Rent A Car, which comes highly recommended. They have a wide range of vehicles from small hatchbacks to bulky American muscle cars. Plus, by renting from them you will be supporting the local economy, and they may also be able to provide local knowledge that you may not get from international companies.

Top Road Trips from Miami

South Florida has an abundance of places to explore and discover, so make sure you set some time aside to head out of the city on a road trip or two.

At only an hour’s drive away, a trip to Miami must include a visit to Palm Springs. It is here that you’ll get a real taste of how Florida looks in the movies, so if you want a slice of luxury, pastel colours, and fancy places to get brunch then this is the place for you. But Palm Springs isn’t just about Coachella and naturist resorts, you can also go exploring along the walking and hiking trails of the Tahquitz Canyons, or head to an outdoor art exhibition in the desert.

Or, for a longer trip out, why not journey down to Tampa and experience the rich, cultural diversity, award-winning restaurants, and fascinating history that comes with this incredible city?

Frequently asked questions about car rental Miami

What’s the best area to stay in Miami?
The best area to stay in Miami is downtown if you want to be at the centre of all the entertainment venues and shops. This will give you the ability to see what the city is all about right on your doorstep.
What is the cheapest time to go to Miami?
January and February are the cheapest months to go to Miami, and the weather is generally nice all year round so this isn’t a bad time to go. But keep an eye out for flight and accommodation deals at other times too as they can crop up at any time, and make sure you book in advance.
What is the best time to go to Miami?
The best time to go to Miami is in spring when the weather is warm, but the humidity is low and there is a lower chance of hurricanes. Plus, tourist season isn’t in full swing yet, so the beaches aren’t too packed just yet.
Can you get around Miami without a car?
Light rail, buses, and automated trains are good, budget-friendly options for travelling within the city, but a car will take you wherever you want to go at your leisure. Not only that but it makes it easier to travel further outside the city limits if you want to explore or go on road trips.

Miami is best experienced with a rental car as long as it is not very easy to see all by walking, especially for those who have limited time like us. Instead of walking alongside the Miami Beach and having fancy seafood on the Ocean Drive, sightseeing the city with a car is the best choice from my point of view. By the way don't forget to shop at Sawgrass Mill if you wish to make the ones who stayed at home happy :)
