Known as The City of Lights, Las Vegas will dazzle you with its endless abundance of casinos, galleries and epic parks to discover. There truly is something for everyone here, from the world-famous Las Vegas Strip that gives the city its title; ‘The Entertainment Capital of the World’, to plenty of spas, malls, boutiques, and museums for those looking for a unique trip that’s a little more low-key.
The main airport in Las Vegas is the Harry Reid International Airport. Previously known as the ‘McCarren International Airport’, it was renamed recently in February 2021 and both names are still often used, so don’t mistake them for being separate airports. Generally, it is widely recommended that the best way to get around Las Vegas is via car. There are plenty of globally recognised car rental firms located at the airport. Among the agencies offering their market expertise and great deals include Thrifty, Enterprise, and Sixt, but keep an eye out for some more wallet-friendly brands like Budget and Payless Car Rental too as these are just as reputable but often offer much cheaper prices.
It’s no secret that Las Vegas can be an expensive trip, so to save money where you can you may want to avoid the extra fees that come with renting a car at the airport. Instead, you can find the same host of big-name brands dotted all over downtown Las Vegas. Many of these can be found in popular places such as on the strip, outside hotels, or near casinos. However, if you plan on splashing the cash whilst living it up in Las Vegas, we recommend keeping an eye out for some of the more independent, local car rental agencies such as LVC Exotic Rentals, as many of these have a large variety of luxury cars and vehicles for you to choose from.
Whizzing around the City of Lights is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will never forget, but before you get too excited make sure you prepare yourself prior to jumping behind the wheel. As with any new country or area there are certain things you should be aware of to ensure the safety of yourself and others around you. For example, be prepared for lots of visual distractions. This is especially true at night when all the bright lights and flashing colours can become dazzling. Also, do be extra vigilant about pedestrians as there will be a lot of them and many can be unpredictable.
If you’re looking to rent a car at the airport, all of the agencies are available at the McCarren Rent-A-Car Center, which is actually 3 miles south of the airport. There are no booths at the airport itself, however there are regular shuttle buses that will get you to this Rent-A-Car Center efficiently. It houses ten reputable car rental companies and also has good access to the main strip.
On the other hand, if you’re after car rental somewhere downtown, Hertz has sixteen pickup locations dotted all over the city, and they also provide great information on their website about how to make the most of Las Vegas by car. Regardless of what company you choose, however, you can rest assured knowing that you are guaranteed the highest quality no matter who you go with.
Although the Las Vegas Strip is a must-see, there is so much more to this incredible city than blinding lights and thrilling casinos. Make sure to save a few days for hopping in the car and heading out for a road trip to some of the jaw-dropping places that are on your doorstep in the state of Nevada.
A trip to Las Vegas isn’t complete without a road trip to the world-famous Grand Canyon National Park. In just over two hours you can find yourself on another planet, discovering the incredible natural landscape that has been carved from the red desert rock.
For more natural desert adventures, ensure you set aside the time to visit Hoover Dam and Death Valley too. These two bucket-list essentials are the perfect destination for nature lovers and thrill seekers alike, just don’t forget to pack the sunscreen.
