Fill your own gas. Park away from other cars if possible. Make sure you check-out how the car works before leaving the lot. Come back a few minutes early; don't push it. Keep your valuables in the trunk and out of site. Adjust speed for the weather. Don't be a yahoo. So many people think they're a better driver than mother nature.

1. Nonstop air travel. 2. Renting a Thrift Car was easy to do and a great ride. 3. We took our grandchildren to Chuckie Cheese. Great for the kids, but use the coupons available on line. 4. McDonalds is always a great value and there are restaurants everywhere, so convenient. 5. We shopped at Marshalls and Burlington and they were also convenient. 6. The Springfield Children's museum is a great value.

BDL is a medium to smaller sized airport, if flying domestic you can be at the airport 1 or 1 1/2 hours ahead of time, 2 hours is not necessary. Some of the airlines have scales outside and inside available for you to use ahead of time to weigh your bags, if bag weight or reshuffling your items is a concern for you. There is a small pet room for your pet to do its business, located near the restrooms on the second floor. There is a coffee donut shop inside and some other restaurants, maybe 10 or less choices to eat at in total. I didn't find any vegan burgers or much of a vegan selection, so bring your own vegan food. There is a wonderful area with a few free rocking chairs to relax in - so comfortable and for a fee there are about 5 massage chairs! Some airlines have a charging station with counters and outlets. Very clean and nice airport. All "airport" rental car locations require a shuttle bus, but I haven't found that to be a problem at all.

Checking at Bradley couldn't have been better. TSA does not advertise the Pre-Check line at Bradley on their website, but it is available and very welcome indeed! If you have TSA Pre-Check, you needn't arrive more than a half hour before your flight. Otherwise, be prepared for a long wait in the regular security line - at least 20-40 minutes it looked to be. The restrooms that aren't under renovation are large and clean. Be sure to hit them up after the security checkpoint - the only water fountains from what I could tell are located with the restrooms, and it's a small trek back to them from your gate. Dining options are slim compared to some airports, but seeing many happily munching passengers attests to the desirability of the offerings if not their quality. Like many airports, my gate had several televisions showing either flight information or local news. The sound system, however, was playing an old Looney Tunes episode, despite no television in the vicinity showing the program - delightfully odd. Boarding was quick and efficient. Have a great flight from Bradley!

Bradley International Airport is a smaller airport and much easier to navigate then Logan in Boston. In the past it was expensive to get there via a taxi but that cost has come down with companies like Lyft and Uber. In my experience, waiting lines are shorter and it is quicker to get through TSA security then at larger airports. Because of the size, BDL is limited on places to eat, however, there is something for everyone there. This is a good airport to fly into if you want to explore Western MA and the Berkshire Mountains. It might cost more to fly into BDL, however it is worth the cost to avoid the hassles of a larger airport such as Logan.

Don't travel to Hartford Airport after dark. Don't have high expectations. Don't eat the lobster roll at the Phillips location in the airport. Fly Southwest Airlines if you can. Rent from someone other than Thrifty.

Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. Make sure you know the address of the rental car company Make sure you have a signal for GPS Print directions in case you lose signal Make a list of all the things you would like to do Check the weather. Schedule you day. Have fun!!!

Car rental is very easy and made for easy travel to New Haven from Bradley Airport. Security line was very small and fast. Several options to eat in the airport.

The Thrifty rental car location is a bit further away from the airport than the other companies. Be prepared for this and don't assume you'll be able to just follow the signs to the rental car return to return the car. The signs will direct you to where most of them are but not Thrifty, which is a bit further and around a corner or two. This can be a bit stressful if you're having to catch a flight. Enter the location in your GPS to get there directly. I was told the airport is now following the trend of most airports and building a centralized car rental facility so maybe this won't be an issue in a year or two. I assume Thrifty was a bit cheaper than the others for this reason.
