Easy transfer from the airport to the rental cars desk. Very friendly and helpful staff who went through the details of the rental agreement. We were driving up to St Johnsbury Vermont and were not sure about the weather and road conditions. The car we got to drive was a Tahoe. It was a pleasure, we had lots of room and felt very safe driving during not the best conditions. It was very easy to drop the car at the end of our visit. There was no rush we could take our time emptying and checking that we hadn´t left anything behind. A very pleasant experience.

Always allow plenty of time to check in and get through security. If you have questions, ask! There are always plenty of good people around to give you answers. If you decide to rent a car- don’t be concerned about taking the shuttle to/from the airport. The shuttles run constantly and on time. The bus transportation to surrounding areas is always a great option too.

Plan your travel ahead. It’s better to figure out how to get from your gate to the rental car before your flight. Otherwise, you’ll be tired and frustrated and need to figure out which bus to get on. If you’re eating at Logan, there is a Dunkin which is cheaper than Starbucks for breakfast. For lunch, you can try lobster at the airport, but I don’t recommend it. Also, be sure to use the Shell gas station right next door to the rental cars to refill your gas. Very convenient.

Other than taking a shuttle to grab my rental car, it was a seamless experience. The temperature of the building was comfortable and I was welcomed by a smiling face waiting to assist me. As I was only there for one day, some additional proof was needed but the customer service rep apologized for the inconvenience and made small talk along the way. He asked me where I was going and then offered me the additional EZ pass module which was great because I had forgotten mine. It was really affordable. I had thought it was going to be super expensive. I opted to not pay for a full tank of gas as I knew I wouldn't use all of it. As I was leaving the rental lot to attend a funeral and needed to freshen up, the rep directed me to the public restrooms that had electrical outlets and I was able to look presentable after waking up at 4am to jump on my flight from Detroit. All in all, a great experience.

Massachusetts has toll roads that don’t take cash. If you have a portable EZPass device, take it with you and save yourself some money at the car rental counter. Many states use EXPass and the transponder can be used in all of them. If you need to pay for a transponder as part of your rental package, make sure you know where it’s located in the car. Mine was behind the mirror where I couldn’t see it.

Allow more time. Most flights are late. Ask questions before you book. We had to pay for husband to drive because car was rented with my card. Ask clerks for honest opinion about tolls. We didn't come anywhere near using 40 dollars worth of tolls.

Plan for rush hour! Even at 7:30pm the traffic was dense in Boston. Likewise, coming back, allow for rush hour. I arrived in Boston around 6:30am and already the traffic was thick. Returning the car was much easier than I thought it would be. And, I advise paying for the gas fill-up on return when you pick the car up. It is very convenient.

I would recommend getting the insurance they offer for the car. I got in an accident, and was incredibly thankful that I had gotten the insurance for the vehicle. Thrifty also got me a replacement car, no questions asked, because I had gotten the insurance. However, when they tell you to go to pick up the replacement at the nearest Thrifty, check the location by calling. The place the phone operator sent me turned out to be a Hertz that was not partnered with Thrifty. I then just googled the next closes Thrifty and ubered there, but it turned out that place had not been a Thrifty for a couple years (it was a truck rental place) and the Google post was out of date. So apparently where Thrifty is changes with some frequency, so call before you go!

Rush-hour in downtown Boston can result in traffic close to gridlock. If your flight requires you to arrive at the airport around rush-hour, add an extra hour for travel time just in case. If you are driving yourself, definitely use a GPS system like Waze to help navigate during rush-hour. Boston cabbies are great -- they know all the tricks, but they are not miracle-workers, so still add that extra hour for rush-hour travel. When returning a rental car at Logan Airport, the airport gas station is very conveniently located just before the rental car lots, so opt for refilling the tank yourself. At the international terminal, the larger duty free shops with the larger selection of products (including some very esoteric Bourbons) is located at the northern end of the terminal. There are water fountains throughout the terminal that have a spigot that allows filling a water bottle easily. It's a good idea to have your own water bottle on a flight to avoid the dehydration common to air travel.

*Make sure to check travel time to the airport via Google maps to avoid getting stuck in traffic, especially on a Friday. * There are a few gas stations around the airport if you need to fill your tank before dropping off the rental car. The Shell station is probably the closest. You can Google that as well. *Give yourself plenty of time to get to the rental car dropoff at the end of your trip. There can be a lot of traffic. Don't forget from there you'll need to take a shuttle to your terminal. *If you only have a reservation for your car rental and not a contract, don't forget to stop at the rental car desk you are using to get your contract before heading out to where the cars are.

Boston airport is very easy. If you are headed north, use the rt. 1 bridge to avoid tolls into either of the I-93 tunnels. The airport gas station at terminal E has gas that is reasonably priced and convenient to get to. Parking in Boston proper is limited and very expensive, so plan accordingly. Otherwise, the free Silver Line Bus gets you to South Station with easy access to the financial district. The Blue Line shuttle gets you to a subway stop with free transfer to all other Boston subway lines.

Definitely research ahead of time. I have been a guest on too many trips where we get to the destination and waste so much time deciding what to do. Going in with a plan makes all the difference to maximize your time, especially to a place you’ve never been before. Even as much as making restaurant reservations and mapping your routes. I make it a point to spearhead the plans when I go on trips now. My friends may not like it at first, but they never cease to thank me by the time it’s all over. Hope this helps and happy traveling!

When thinking about Boston plan ahead. There are so many historical venues to see you want to do as much as possible. Mike's Pastries is a great place to start. A must is Paul Reveres House and of course the Old North Church. If you are into the Revolutionary scene continue on with the Boston Harbor and grab a bite to eat at any one of the amazing pubs along the way. Take a trip to Salem and learn about our dark past with the Salem Witch Trials Museum. Follow the red line throughout Salem on a walking tour of the sites from the graveyard to the memorial to those hung- not burned. Take in the fantastic art museum. Send your day with a basket of fish and chips or look for a hand made wand. Boston and the surrounding areas is a new favorite place for us to return to again and again!

1. Know beforehand that you'll have to rent the EZ-pass for the tolls around Boston (for $10 a day). 2. Know that you'll need to take one of the busses to the rental car building (there aren't separate shuttles per car company). 3. Know that all rental car companies are in the same building. 4. Be ready for weird and confusing directions around the Boston area. 5. Go check out the historical sites around Boston (public transportation can get you to many of them). 6. Always show up to Boston-Logan airport early - they often have long security lines.

There is a Pilgrim Monument you can climb, which gives you a wonderful view of the area, and there are whale watching tours and tons of restaurants and shops in this area as well. Boston is a beautiful city and a great place to visit in the fall. If you enjoy seafood (especially clams, oysters and lobster), good beer, and history you will enjoy your visit. There is so much to see while you are here: boats on the Charles River, the Freedom Trail and Paul Revere's ride, The USS Constitution ship, Mike's Bakery (the best cannoli you will ever have) and so much more. If you're renting a car, take a ride up to the North Shore and visit the coastal, cozy towns of Marblehead and Essex, or take a tour of the Witch House in Salem. If it is summer time, drive down to Cape Cod for gorgeous beaches or take the ferry to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket. There is delicious clam chowder everywhere and the summer lobster rolls will change your life. Overall, the list of things to see and do in Boston is virtually endless. In winter, try to fly nonstop! If you cant, give yourself plenty of time for layovers at airports, especially JFK and O'Hare, and especially in winter, when weather can cause massive delays. If you do need to make connections in winter, try southern airports like Atlanta or Dallas, where local weather is less of a factor. However, even there the ripple effects of weather events in the north and east can create delays. Just in case, I always bring work or a book with me to do if I'm stuck in an airport. If missing a connection stresses you out, find a nice restaurant, think positive thoughts, and try to relax! You'll get there eventually.

I spend time in Boston first - the history mixed with the modern aspects of the city. Fanual Hall Marketplace is a MUST see/experience. Then I had business in Southeast and Central Connecticut. The Mystic area is also filled with so many attractions like the seaport.

We were traveling to the Cape and had a great time, but would tell others to take the bus line to the Cape and rent your car there - it is cheaper and you don't have to deal with Boston traffic.

Highly recommend the Freedom Trail ... be sure to try to visit with guides ... fascinating stories. Check out Boston Public Library, Boston Gardens/Commons, hop-on/off trolley tour, cheap and delicious seafood, and don't miss the Cape and Woods Hole Ferry to Martha's Vineyard ... So much to do ... so little time ...
