Make sure you understand & use Car Play for travel navigation. Take phone USB cable with you. Take rag with you to clean windows during winter trips. Use lane assist feature if provided in vehicle on long trips to ensure position on road is safe. Fill up tank before returning vehicle to avoid high charges from rental firm. Be aware of areas in northern Arizona, South Utah (Monument Valley) area where there is no cell phone coverage.

Visit Sandia Crest and enjoy some of the fabulous food in New Mexico. The chili and burritos are the best here. Old Town Albuquerque is a great place to visit for Albuquerque first timers and has a Santa Fe feel to it. Downtown Albuquerque can be fun but keep in eye on your property in the night hours. Having reliable transportation in New Mexico makes the experience a lot more fun. The Albuquerque Airport is uncrowded but do not bring any food through TSA checkpoint. Enjoy the Southwest and open space.

Have some kind of idea of what you may want to see and ask the attendant they have great information. Always look ahead to see what festivals the place your going to is known for and when. Look at other places then the tourist spots, ask locals. Sign up for the state's big book or whatever they may call it, it has all the information for things to do and eat. Normally found on the states website. Stay is well lit, well known places, sometimes cheaper isn't always best. Check for deals at least two months ahead of time.

A visit to Albuquerque's "Old Town" is fun. We spent most of our time in Santa Fe and Ojo Caliente, which is a delightful mineral hot springs resort in a lovely, quiet, private setting.

For the best price shop around the different travel websites online. I reserved my car 5 hours prior to pickup due to an error on my part on the first reservation and I got a much better price and car going with Advantage. Albuquerque area has a lot of activities. There’s a lot of Pueblo’s to visit in the area, a Zoo, hiking, and gambling at nearby casinos, shopping and friendly people. I recommend taking a drive along the Turquoise Highway NM-14 between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, it’s a nice scenic drive with historical sites and old mining towns along the way. I’d also recommend trying the local food and trying something with green or red chili.

We had five days and four nights in Santa Fe, two days were travel days. Our first full day was spent exploring the shops and artist booths around the plaza, Native American artisans lining the sidewalk in front of the Palace of Governors, visiting the Georgia O’Keefe Museum, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Loretto Chapel, the San Miguel Chapel, and finished with a walk through the gardens of the Georgia O’Keefe Research Center. Day two, we explored the cliff dwellings at Bandelier National Monument, visited Jackalope (artisan center in Santa Fe), and spent hours exploring/playing at Meow Wolf House of Eternal Return (crazy, awesome art experience). Day three, we drove the High Road to Taos, stopping at Santuario de Chimayo for a short visit before reaching our ultimate destination of Taos Pueblo. Afterwards we visited the La Loma Plaza in Taos and stopped at San Francisco de Asis Church before taking the Low Road back to Santa Fe as we drove along the Rio Grande Gorge. What a wonderful visit to the Land of Enchantment!

Make a list that you keep in your suitcase so that you don’t have to think it out every time you go somewhere. Have a separate set of make up, shampoo, deodorant etc. that you keep in your suitcase so you don’t have to remember to take things out afterwards. To keep things from wrinkling, wrap them in a dry cleaner bag before you put them in the suitcase. Make sure you keep a paper copy of your itinerary in your bag or purse. It helps if you need a quick referral to your schedule. Set your phone alarm for the time and date that you need to leave to go to the airport. Make sure you leave plenty of travel time. You can check that on your GPS in your phone.

This is travel tips for those on a tight and very limited travel budget with just enough on your credit card for the deposit hold for your rental car. Find out prior to picking up your rental car the amount they will be holding on your credit card. Plan to have between $50 to $75 extra on your credit care for those unexpected charges on your rental car reservations. The extra money will also ensure that you will be able return the car with a full tank of gas!!

Use Thrifty because of multiple reasons. The person on the transfer bus to the rental center was very professional and friendly. The airport had attractive art work and good signage. The Thrifty counter employee that I interacted with was very professional and friendly. The car was clean and had good tires. A gas station was available near to the rental return spot to top off the tank. The person receiving the car upon our return was very pleasant.

Balloon Festival was a nightmare with traffic. We were a 10 minute drive drive the launching area and left at 530am. It took us 2 hours to get there then we were told that the parking lots were full to turn around and find parking somewhere else. If I had to do it again I would suggest taking a shuttle or an Uber/Lift ride instead. We enjoyed Meow Wolf in Santa Fe. Petroglyphs in Albuquerque was interesting but crowded quickly. Downtown Albuquerque is a fun place to walk and enjoy food.

AIRPORT SCREENING WENT VERY QUICKLY WITH THE TSA PRESCREEN. CHECKED IN ONLINE AND PRINTED BOARDING PASSES FROM HOME AND HOTEL ON RETURN. HAD TO THROW A CAN OF FOOD AWAY AT THE SCREENING BECAUSE TSA SAID IT HAD LIQUID BEYOND ALLOWABLE LIMITS. OTHERWISE, AIRPORT WAS VERY NICE AND HAD A GOOD SELECTION OF EATERIES AND RESTROOMS.

The best tip I can give is to leave your party at the airport with the luggage/bags while one person travels to pick up the rental car. The shuttle will be less crowded as well as the rental center. The airport is very close, so it is not out of the way to return to pick up your party and luggage/bags.

Small airport, near the old Albuquerque so could easily visit there if limited time. They had a bomb scare there as we landed...could have used more information on the situation. The people were not allowed to go into the baggage area downstairs so people were lined up near the baggage area...seems to me that they should've been made to congregate as far from the issue as possible. We were only delayed about 45 minutes and then the shuttles to the rental cars and parking were a bit of a cluster but everyone was civil.

Generally a very smooth and efficient place to rent a car. The front desk was very thorough. The attendants in the parking lot took the time to carefully go over the cars condition with me. That is one of the most important parts of the rental process. If you don't note the condition of the car carefully, you can be charged for damage that was already existing. Getting out of the airport from the rental center is very easy in Albuquerque.
