Glasgow is the most populous city in Scotland, and the third most populous city in the United Kingdom. Glasgow is located on the River Clyde in the country's West Central Lowlands. Inhabitants of the city are referred to as ""Glaswegians"" or ""Weegies"". It is the fifth most visited city in the UK. Glasgow is also known for the Glasgow patter, a distinct dialect that is noted for being difficult to understand by those from outside the city. If you like sports, you can drive to the homes of different sports in your rental car. Glasgow is well known in the sporting world for football, rugby, athletics, tennis, golf and swimming.

Climate in Glasgow

Despite its northerly latitude, similar to that of Moscow, Glasgow's climate is classified as oceanic. Glasgow is one of Scotland's milder areas. Temperatures are usually higher than in most places of equal latitude, due to the warming influence of the Gulf Stream. When you are planning your vacation, you should really look up the climate in the period you wish to visit. Winters are cool and overcast but snowfall accumulation is infrequent. The spring months are usually mild and often quite pleasant. During the summer months the weather can vary from relatively cool and wet to quite warm with the odd sunny day. The warmest month is usually July. Autumns are generally cool to mild with increasing precipitation. During early autumn there can be some settled periods of weather and it can feel pleasant with mild temperatures and some sunny days.

Glasglow airport is one of the easiest airports that I have had to go through, and I have been through a LOT of airports. You dont have to walk for miles and miles from one side of the airport to collect your luggage and then pass through immigration and customs. But certainly, the standout for me was the friendly immigration staff. Unfortunately, I did not get the immigration ladies name, but she was fabtastic.. my family had arrived a week before I did and it turned out that they had been served by the same immigration officer who remembered my wife and daughter. so my To Do point is, approach immigration with your papers ready and with a smile on your face, regardless of how long your flight had been to get there, being leasant with the immigration officials makes it easier for them and for you!

Make sure you obtain a DVLA certificate before going to collect your hire car. At the airport take time to look around if you have a long wait. Going through to departures early can be a god option if going through is possible. It gets you away from the madding crowd and is much more conducive to a relaxing pre-flight.

Much more user friendly airport than Birmingham, I thought. Plenty of space at check-in desks. Security was quick and efficient - be ready to be frisked though. All three of us (me, wife and daughter) were given a patting-down! Lots of duty free if you like that sort of thing. Good choice of eating and drinking places - we chose Frankie and Bennys and they were excellent with a "guaranteed" 15 minute service window which they just about met. There is even a Celtic FC shop if you're a fan! Good experience all round.

Be patient it's worth it. Also, if you are not from the UK, and driving on the "wrong" side of the road for you is a daunting prospect, you will be glad to pick-up your rental car some ways away from the airport traffic. Their location lets you ease into leftward driving. Plus their cars are great!

Call for shuttle bus at baggage reclaim. It can take 5-10 mins to show up. Very thorough check in of the vehicles before and after hire. Pay close attention to the identified marks and scratches on the checklist provided. Ensure any new items not covered in the list are noted by the representatives who were very reasonable and explained what was chargeable. I would recommend this firm for their value and honesty over the major firms.

Positives: Decent selection of restaurants in departures area, clean washrooms, most vehicle rental options a short walk from the main terminal, decent public transit and taxi options from the arrivals area. Negatives: good luck finding an information center for tourists. Maybe we missed it but wasn’t obvious if individuals or resources to help with simple inquiries exists.

Glasgow airport is fairly small and easy to navigate. On outgoing flights, passengers que up well in advance, even when the plane is boarding by row number. Glasgow airport has free WiFi - for one hour, so chose your time period wisely. Customs was just a passport check. The window to declare any items you were bringing in was not even open. The information center for arriving passengers is probably going to close soon, according to the ladies that work there.

Travel Tips: Always pack light! Have your liquids prepared in plastic bags and everything you'll need to remove for security easily accessible - makes the whole process much quicker. Carry around a reusable water bottle so you don't have to burn through plastic ones (and spend money on them!) - you can fill it up anywhere with a sink. Portable phone chargers are an absolute life saver. To Do: Rent a car and drive the Scottish Highlands!! Make sure you get unlimited miles with your rental car - it's so worth it. There is some very cool stuff to see, but honestly even if you just drive the views from the roads are stunning. Make a good playlist and get a map and explore!!

Glasgow offers lots of exciting experiences, but where to begin? You could start with the city's iconic buildings, first taking a walk through the city's museums and galleries to find everything from Dinosaurs to Dali, and a tour of the historic City Chambers and magnificent Glasgow Cathedral. Football fans will also undoubtedly want to take a look behind the scenes of Scotland's national stadium at the Hampden Experience, taking in the iconic sporting venue. Mackintosh lovers will find The Willow Tea Rooms, The Lighthouse, House for an Art Lover, and the Glasgow School of Art to be must-visits, with the Hard Rock Cafe nearby to provide a stop-off. There's also plenty to do for families, with Loch Lomond Aquarium and Snow Factor just a short distance away from the city. For something a little bit different, why not head over to Glasgow Science Centre or the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery to find fascinating exhibitions and collections, or step aboard the Tall Ship, an icon of Glasgow's ship-building heritage still afloat to this day! Looking to explore more of Scotland? Glasgow's the perfect city to depart from, as you'll find Rabbie's Small Group Tours and Timberbush Tours regularly setting off from the City Centre to destinations across the country. And Whisky lovers will relish a tour of Glengoyne Distillery, and Tennent's Wellpark Brewery presents a fascinating look into the history and success of Scotland's oldest brewery.
