Of course, you must visit La Sagrada Familia. Though I am not religious, this architecture is absolutely amazing with the symbology throughout and the absolutely stunning stained glass. I would also recommend Park Güell. It offers a wonderful view of the city and is simply a relaxing place to walk and talk. Finally, Montserrat cannot be missed. Great photo opportunities from the mountains, cable car, and funicular. And for those that like bouldering, plenty of climbing opportunities.

Avoid the city center because of the the protests which are going on, book a hotel far away from the city center, as we had booked a car from holidaycars.com , it was hassle free and a great deal on the last minute too, One thing I regret is that I Should have taken the full car insurance from the website(holidaycars.com) itself, it was much cheaper than the one which we bought at the counter .My advice it to buy insurance along with the car rental. It will work out better, money wise.

Barcelona airport is one of the place to visit, driving a car in Barcelona and around is just a breath taking specailly to wards Girona, Platsja de Aro. They have nice roads down there. If you wish to go and rent a car, please do so! BUT, STAY AWAY FROM ALAMO by a mile and their sister groups (ALAMO/enterprise/national), they can turn a heaven into a hell. Time is a very precious in hectic life and you don't want to have a trouble on your special moments. Unfortunalely ALAMO and their staff -Zadkiel/Satkiel and Jack maanage to reject all my 3 creditcards just to cancel our reservation for a premium car, so they can rent the car to other customers (presumably through enterprise/or natioal) and get paid twice for the SAME CAR. In my humble opionion, these two guys should have never worked there, Zadkiel should answer how he managed to block my 3 credit credit to process the payment. No traveller should suffer what my wife and suffered in our 11th anniversery. Hertz saved us and i suggest if you reading this to book hertz, avis, sixt and other well established car rentals. AVOID Alamo BCN el prat Terminal 1, and you will thank me for sure.

Ask for the total price to pay. They try to position the additional charges as an addition(e.g you paid 80€, they tell you final price is 120€. What they say is they will charge you additional 120€. Not the difference from what you already paid).

The airport is easy to navigate and the signs are all multilingual. Everything seems to have been recently renovated as the finishes are all very modern and clean. There are many varied spots for coffee, snacks, meals, gifts, news, etc. The signage for arriving and departing flights are numerous and easy to interpret. The check in desks were fully staffed and lines were minimal. All in all, I find this one of the best airports I travel through in europe. I especially like the artwork!

French & Spanish motorways have lots of non fuel / non retail rest areas (unlike UK motorways). Service stations, like the UK, tend to be crowded and expensive. If you want to save a bit of money stop at a supermarket at the beginning of your trip and stock up on snacks & drinks and when you need to stop for a rest do it in rest area rather than a service station. They're much more tranquil and often have picnic areas.

Make sure to use AENA's free wifi before heading out on your journey. There is lots to see around Barcelona, from the Sagrada Familiar to the Parc Guell. Keep in mind that France is only 3 hours away, with nothing but some of the world's most gorgeous beachfronts peppering the Mediterranean coastline. Figueres, Roses, Argeles-sur-Mer, Gruissan, and Narbonne-Plage are some of my personal favorites, before finally stopping in Collioure. If you're really in vacation-mode, avoid the highways and tollroads and go the scenic route, like D914!

Barcelona airport was great and customs was relatively speedy. Picking up our car from Europe car was fairly easy. We came in early so we did have to wait a little bit to get our car. With regards to Where to stay, I would recommend the Ramblas area which is close to all of the sides and excellent eating. In addition to the usual sites to see in Barcelona, we would recommend taking the cable car up to Montjuic from the harbor. Lastly, please make sure you book tickets ahead of time to see La Sagrada Família, As you may not get in if you simply walk up.

Bus transfers to the terminal 2 are regular. The bus transfer time was around 15 minutes from T1 to T2. The airport is clean but the toilets aren’t. Waiting time isn’t too bad at the car hire companies but we hired in February. The people at the information desk are helpful. The shopping is excellent.

This is s good arrival destination for Spain, since the airport was not overly busy when I arrived at 800 am. This meant queues at immigration were almost non-existent. Scourge bonus is that baggage claim areas were not crowded. I always enjoy extra space there so everyone can get a trolley close to the baggage claim belts. Be aware the salida (exit) signs are not evident near the baggage claim area. You need to look down rather than up, and you'll notice the arrows painted on the floor. OK so you can find your luggage and make your way to the exit, if you came from Madrid you probably notice the extra bonus is that the free wifi connection is the same at both airports, so you are convected automatically (bonus!)

The most important thing is to realize which terminal you are arriving in and which you are leaving. Rhoduim is flexible if you pick up your car in Terminal 1 you do have the option to return it to Terminal 2. I would suggest staying the night before your return flight in a hotel near the airport that offers free shuttle service. Do your check in and then return your car to Terminal 1, even if you picked it up in Terminal 2. There is a gas station on the main road just before going into the airport where you can fill up. As a tip ask the cashier to turn the dispenser so you can fill it up and pay the exact amount. The signs are easy to follow for returning vehicles to Terminal 1. All hotels have their shuttle buses outside of Area G which is easy to get to from the rental car return area. So after dropping the car, take the shuttle back to the hotel. If you go to Terminal 2 you need to call your hotel to have them pick you up. This way in the AM you can relax and then just grab the shuttle for your return flight. I highly recommend Barcelona Airport Hotel or Salles Hotel Ciutat del Prat as I stayed at both of them. If you stay your 1st night at Salles Hotel Ciutat you can park your car on the street and then walk 10 minutes and take the train in to downtown Barcelona for 3.50 euro. Then use your car to drive to other places. Warning : there is NO parking anywhere near the Parc Guell unless you are lucky enough to find it on the street. (tix in advance too!)

Also remember that there are reserved parking for locals and if you park accidently than it will be towed away. So take your time and park securely, always take full insurance. Always take data pachage and roaming, google maps works best.
