Check with Hertz rental that the vehicle booking is confirmed. The hire car from Durban does not have etags. This means you pay cash at the toll gates.

Do search around for quotes. Check reviews (on independent sites). When paying in foreign currency with a card, dont accept the conversion offered by the machine as this is more expensive. For UK Visa turnarounds, budget at least 3 days extra when outsourced parties involved (eg TLS), as embassy turnaround excludes transit. If travelling with small children, Emirates service is amazing. Do put Lastovo island (Croatia) on your bucket list.

Good selection of stores restaurants and services for a smaller airport. They need to put signs by baggage claim that you should not step out to public until all bags are picked up. I gave my brother a part of my luggage right I. Front of security and when I went to retrieve more, they escorted me out did a full security and ID check etc and had me re-enter baggage claim through separate entrance. This could have been avoided if there was a sign. I understand it is for security reasons but it was humiliating and made my re-union with my family after 2 years very strained and stressful.
