Queenstown International Airport

Queenstown International Airport is the gateway to Queenstown and the lower South Island. It’s located just 15 minutes from downtown Queenstown. With 2 runways, this airport is the fourth busiest airport in the country by passenger numbers, following Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington. Queenstown International Airport services daily flights from Air New Zealand, Jetstar, Qantas, and Virgin Australia. It’s also New Zealand’s busiest helicopter base and is heavily used for ‘flightseeing’ on fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. There are many great products available for visitors to explore the region by air.
From Queenstown International Airport visitors can easily get to the city centre with shuttles, taxi services, buses and rental cars. When passengers have a little spare time left at the airport, they can enjoy duty/tax-free shopping. Many retail outlets offer clothing, fine knitwear, jewelry, souvenirs, reading material, pharmacy products and toiletries. Get a quick bite before boarding at one of the fancy cafés, bars or restaurants. Other services at Queenstown International Airport include currency exchange, ATM, free Wi-Fi, telephones, wheelchair access, baggage storage, baby change and a parenting room.

Tonoshi’s Japanese restaurant was amazing. Should definitely take the gondola up and do the luge. Tip: get you’re tickets down in town and you don’t have to wait in line at the gondola

The Queenstown airport is small, from the airport to rental car parking area is just 5 - 10 minutes walk. Queenstown is just a lovely city, the centre of Queenstown provide quite a lot of choices of restaurant, but also parking lot. Parking in Queenstown city centre is quite expensive, so, if you stay in a place near to the city centre will save you a lot of parking fee.

Jucy will help you get out and go! Our car rental was great in helping us see what we wanted to see, at the pace we wanted to go. It was a great decision. Try to get to know some of the locals and take their advice. This will often lead you to unexpected but memorable experiences. Have fun!

Queenstown Airport is compact but efficient. Easy to get around the airport on both arrival and departure. Food court provides great variety and salads are "fresh as" (as the Kiwis say.) Pick-up and drop off is well marked for passengers, and rental car/ shuttle buses arrive on time for easy transport to off site facilities. Check in is pleasant as the airline personnel are very helpful and move the passengers along at reasonable speeds. Gates are close by the check in area so there is time to relax prior to your flight.

Small airport with great, easy security. Only thing to keep in mind is that all the food concessions are before security. Otherwise, perfect!

Make sure to rent a car before you head over on your trip to Queenstown. You cut down waiting time at the front desk of rental car services. It's worth driving out to Arrowtown to check out the old town shops and museum, and Glenorchy for the 360 mountain views. For foodies, waiting in line for a Fergburger experience is tedious but a must, although if waiting isn't for you, the Ferg Bakery has some must try pies and pasties. In both the warm and cooler seasons, Pentagonia Gelato is a must try for tourists and give Whittakers chocolate or caramel milk a go for milkshake lovers, you can find it at any major grocery store.

Milford Sound, drive all around the area to see the spectacular scenery, take some sort of jet boat ride, and watch the sunset while relaxing on the beach.

Queenstown is a very beautiful town. Highlights and to-dos were the Queenstown Gardens, the Skyline gondola, Arrowtown and a drive to Glenorchy (beautiful scenery). I also suggest people visit the Kiwi Birdlife Park for the chance to see real kiwis - just gorgeous and worthwhile supporting the conservation work of the park. Queenstown is very busy and crowded in summer, and people should book or turn up early if they want to dine at the nice restaurants. It's also not an ideal place for people looking for peace and quiet! It's very difficult to get a car park in the town, so people should travel on foot wherever possible. Food, accommodation, souvenirs and the various adventure activities were quite expensive in comparison to other travel destinations, so people should be aware of this. People staying in accommodation on the east side of the town should also be aware of the steep hills - on the map it may not seem like you have far to walk into town, but it is tiring when you walk back up very steep hills. Overall, a very pretty town.
