About Nantes Atlantique Airport

Nantes Atlantique Airport first started out as military airfield back in 1928. An aircraft factory located at the airfield manufactured various fighter and bomber aircraft until the airfield was captured by the Germans during the Second World War. After the war the airfield was used by the French Air Force and the rebuild factory now started making sections for the Vautour fighter and the Caravelle airliner. It wasn't until 1951 that the airport would be used for civilian aviation.
Today the airport, with its L shaped terminal building, handles flights from all over Europe and in 2017 about 5.4 million passengers passed through. The factory is now part of Airbus which makes plane sections for its airliners. Facilities at the airport, include free Wifi access, are special assistance for passengers with reduced mobility, Baby Change Facilities and much more.
There are many food and drink services available and also duty free and several gift shops. There are several car rental companies situated at the airport in case you haven't booked your car hire online. Because prices of car rental Nantes Airport are usually lower when there are still a lot of cars available you might have to pay more when you rent a car on site. Booking your car rental Nantes Airport in advance also gives you the opportunity to choose the car that best fits your needs rather than choosing from what's left.

Nantes, the artistic city

Nantes once was a renowned shipping port but today the city is mostly known for its art. Le Voyage à Nantes for example is a annual event where artist from all over the world are invited to showcase their talents and contribute to the city's artistic culture. Where the former shipyard used to be there now is a amusement park called Les Machines de l'île where two artist, François Delarozière and Pierre Orefice, create amazing 'Machines'. Two of the main attractions are The Great Elephant are a giant mechanical elephant made of wood and steel and The Marine Worlds Carousel.
Another place you should absolutely visit while vacationing in Nantes is Jardin des Plantes. Jardin des Plantes is a botanical garden that was created in 1807. Among the 200 exotic plants you can admire is a 200-year-old Magnolia grandiflora.
A visit to Nantes will stay in your memory for years to come and will be well worth the effort.

Don't follow Satnav directions in town centre or you will end up in pedestrianised areas! We went to Puy du Fou just outside Nantes and had a great day out, really good theme park and good value for money.
