Bogota has the Pico y Placa driving restriction system. Cars with registration plates ending with an even (odd) number cannot drive during rush hours on week days (Mon-Fri) with an even (odd) date. Check details on the web. Therefore, renting a car in Bogota requires careful planning, making sure you are actually allowed to drive the car when you want to drive. Most of travel in Colombia can be more easily done with public transport and taxis (which are cheap, especially outside of big cities). But a car is a must if you want to visit Chingaza NP. The new Bogota airport is nice, clean and well organized. You have to pay a COP 4,000 deposit for luggage carts, which you get back if you bring the cart back to one of several specific points. The passport check lines are long, but move around rather fast, we waited maybe 10 min on arrival and 15 on departure. The only structural complain is that in the gate area toilets are small, few and far in between (apparently, the zillion tax-free shops had a higher priority). So don't count on a last minute dash just before boarding.
