Perth is absolutely awesome and you will have a great time! When coming in, make sure you are very clear about the content of you suitcases. For instance, if you are bringing in cheese and chocolate, be specific about the brand and/or content. We were stopped because we said we brought cheese and chocolate but a lady right behind me said she was bringing dutch cheese and Milka and so was clear to go. This should keep your customs process a lot quicker after a long tiring flight. The officers are very kind but the whole process of going through your stuff with questions can be a little intimidating.

Best tip for Perth airport is don't go through security if you are hungry as there is only one option for food once you are through. If you can, check in online beforehand. Especially if travelling at night as there are only a limited amount of staff after a certain time. Signposts on the way into Perth airport do not specify if T1/2/3/4 are domestic or international so check which terminal you are travelling from before heading to the airport as you could end up at the wrong terminal like I did.

Easy to navigate from Terminal 1. I always find it quickest to head towards the rental car area and do the paperwork there rather than in the terminal. Just walk straight out the sliding doors after collecting your bags and you'll see the signs. I've had to help people with where to go a couple of times now.

Be prepared - always know the details of your flights, accommodation, car hire etc. I’ve found moving all related emails to a separate folder helps. This was documents and booking details are quickly and easily located. I travel yearly and always make sure to capture moments with photos and videos, these memories last a lifetime. Stop each day, take a moment to take everything in. Find the beauty in each destination. Share these moments with anyone who’ll listen!

Ensure that you are realistic about the distances you are likely to travel and fill up regularly. Keep window screen, windows and head lights clean . Use the facilities offered by most garages in this respect. Do not rely completely on satellite navigation systems. A detailed map can be invaluable should you be travelling outside of main routes and in remote areas. Seek out local advice before you launch into the unknown-flood warnings are worth listening to! Be aware of thirty two wheeler road trains!

If you are a keen golfer try the Vines. Another good place to visit is Penguin Island. You can catch the ferry or kayak out there. Also, there are boat trips to see the seals and dolphins. A tour of Swan Valley is well worthwhile with the many different vineyards to visit. Finally, try the many restaurants also dotted around the valley with their excellent food.

Arrival is pretty easy. Picking up the baggage etc. Make sure you declare everything. My wife declares our tea and the customs guy laughed but said at least you read the form. It’s not a large arrivals area so don’t be like me and expect a mass of people as you come through. Remember it’s going to be hot when you arrive in their summer, dress appropriately.

Perth airport is an amazing and modern airport. There are many shops for but most of the shops in the airport closes after 2am. If you need to buy sim card and arrange transport via uber, be aware of this. There are couple of station for you to weigh your luggage before you do your check in. utilize this so that you could do a smooth check in. The staff in the airport are generally very helpful. Take note of your terminal number as there is also a domestic airport nearby. Taxis are readily available and the price is reasonable. Overall I would say that Perth airport is one of the best airport that I have ever been.

I didn't spend much time in Perth so can't give a lot of tips. I would recommend Kings Park and Botanic Gardens. The park has great views over the city and the Swan river. Fremantle is also worth checking out. The Little Creatures brewery is a great spot for lunch but Fremantle has lots of great cafes and pubs.

The rail and tourist busses around Perth are first class allowing easy access to most of the major highlights. Coffee at the renowned Cottesloe Tea House was a highlight. The restaurant precinct at Leederville has some great choices of cuisine with a great nighttime vibe. Beaches are brilliant with easy access. Perth is easy to negotiate assisted by major highways and freeways in all directions.

I had six days and covered a lot of ground - from climbing Diamond Tree and visiting the karri forests, a couple of days in Margaret River (where the Discovery Tour with the Margaret River Discovery Co was fantastic) then up through Cape Naturaliste and the caves via Busselton to check out the jetty and onto Fremantle before a day in Rottnest (which was stunning and the quokkas were super cute) then via Perth with a delicious breakfast at Holmes before a drive up to see the Pinnacles. An amazing part of Australia! Highly recommended.

Also fabulous Italian style supermarket in South Perth - Scuti - prepared food, wonderful cheeses, etc. Lake Monger & Swan River surrounds beautiful.
