Liverpool is a maritime city and seaport in northwest England, where the River Mersey meets the Irish Sea. It's the City with the most museums outside of London, and in 2008 was named Europe's Capital of Culture. Not only that but it is also home to the world-famous Beatles band and arguably the birthplace of pop music! You'd be surprised at how much coastline and how many green spaces are within the City. The region has an abundance of outdoor spaces, parks, beaches, a stunning coastline and plenty of architectural landmarks to explore.
Its combination of history, architecture, and culture means that hiring a car is the best option in order to explore thoroughly. Whether you wish to jet around visiting different sites, or have business to attend to - Enjoy Travel offers you a wide range of vehicles to meet your needs in just a few clicks! If you're looking for low cost, durability and reliability, then go ahead and book with Enjoy Travel.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport is one of the UK's longest established operational Airports. It's an international airport on the estuary of the River Mersey, seven miles south-east of Liverpool city centre. Scheduled domestic, European, North African and Middle Eastern services are operated from the airport. Liverpool was the UK's first airport to be named after an individual when it was rebranded in 2001 as a lasting tribute to the former Beatle member, John Lennon.
There are a number of great value car rental services available on site at Liverpool Airport. You have the opportunity to choose from a range of vehicles, from companies such as: Enterprise, Europcar, Avis and Hertz to find the right deal for you. Booking in advance through the airport website could save you as much as 15% compared with booking on the day. You’ll also have peace of mind knowing that your car will be ready and waiting for when you arrive. All you have to do is collect it. Then at the end of your stay, or when your hire period comes to an end, simply drop the car off at the airport or at another convenient location.
Upon landing at John Lennon airport, once you have collected your luggage, simply head to the airport’s Car Rental Centre, which is situated on the ground floor of the short stay multi-storey car park. To get to this car park, leave the Arrivals area of the terminal building and cross the road towards the Express Drop Off & Pick Up Car Park. Look out for the car hire company signs.
Liverpool is fairly well-served by public transport, but having a hire car will give you more freedom and flexibility to explore the city and surrounding area. Hiring a car from the City rather than the airport could save you a pretty penny due to the taxes added at airport hires. You'll be happy to hear that there are plenty of parking options around the city, with a great selection of off-street car parks and also a good number of on-street spaces and pay and display car parks - all at an affordable price.
There are a few pointers to be aware of if you’re new to driving in this part of the world. Firstly, be mindful of Liverpool’s 30mph speed limit on majority of the streets, and it’s also important to look out for areas that have a 20mph limit in operation. These streets do tend to be well signposted, and if you intend to travel across to the other side of the Mersey, there are two available road tunnels. The Queensway Tunnel connects the city to Birkenhead, while the Kingsway Tunnel joins it to Wallasey. These tunnels are in operation 24/7 365 days a year, although they do occasionally close for maintenance. They are both toll roads, so make sure you have your credit or debit card, or enough cash, handy.
You should also be aware of the various bus lanes when driving in Liverpool. These lanes are restricted and if you use them during prohibited times, you will be fined. The restrictions are clearly signposted, so keep an eye out for them.
If you wish to get behind the wheel in the UK, you must possess one of the following:

Liverpool is close to a number of beaches and popular northern attractions, so why not take full advantage of the vehicle you have and take an adventure outside of the City? You could head down to Crosby beach to laze the day away on the golden sand, or pop into the quaint seaside town Southport. Speke Hall, Lake District National Park, and Port Sunlight Village are also great day trips.
