Walking next to the Canal in Birmingham didn't disappoint, lovely pubs, restaurants and overall great atmosphere. I can recommend the Warehouse Cafe as a delicious vegetarian option. Also, the Birmingham Library, designed by a famous dutch architecht didn't fail to leave an impression. Lots of interesting buildings with great architecture, really astonishing. Definitely do a guided tour about the 19th century history there (Birmingham Back-to-Backs). Also make sure to visit the IKON Gallery and eat in the tasty Thai Restaurant opposite of it. We stayed at the Clayton Hotel which was exquisite. Last but not least, the symphonie hall is breath-taking.

The tax refund drop box is just next to the immigration counter immediately after your passed the x ray checking. No staff manned and you can just drop the envelope inside the drop box. If you are in a hurry to catch up the flight, you can purchase a fast pass to jump the long queue for security check.

The all inclusive option was not overly expensive so check that out. Make sure you book full to full on the fuel. It is the only way to ensure you know that you can replace what you have used accurately. The firefly office is just outside the terminal building in the Hertz office. Do make sure you go over your car and report its condition to the office before leaving the compound. It is your safety net for your return especially important check for door dents. On return check car over with security. We were on 130 miles per day which was plenty for us but we set the trip to ensure we didn't go over.

Easy airport to get around and a short walk from the terminal to the shuttle. The rental is right by the train station so it's easy and quick to get the free shuttle. It runs really regularly and only takes a couple of minutes. For first time customers there is quite a lot of paperwork and documents required. Best to leave plenty of time when returning the car as there were long queues. Driving to and from the rental was really easy because it's right near the motorway.

I often want to you return early with my rental car. I am often too early to check in at the airport because of this. There are a few hotels across from the airport where you can relax with lunch and a drink.

When visiting a new Green Motion outlet, mark a GPS position or obtain a map to ensure you have an easy return to drop off the car on the way back as the rental office may not be at the airport.

Booked a Ford Mondeo diesel (or similar) for the big boot space and economical drive to drop my family with loads of luggages and two pushchairs to Luton airport but on collection i was given a Peugeot 2008 petrol. They said its the same group car (on their website) but its about 25” Shorter and has a small boot space. They ddidnt offer me anything larger for the same price only is I pay double the price what I already paid. Ended up driving 100 miles with fully packed boot and luggages in the laps. The company should reconsider what car in what group because it was very disspointing and not fit for the purpose I rented the car.

Road works and diverted footpaths made walking between car park and terminal, with luggage , more difficult. No passing places for passengers travelling in opposite direction.

1. Do not keep all your IDs together. 2. Send a copy of your documents to your email 3. Always carry some extra cash, do not rely only on cashless operations. 4. If you are travelling from town to town, rent a car. If you are staying in town for more than a day, return car. It is easier to take a train or a bus than to find parking space in the city center. You can always rent again. 5. Do not hesitate to ask locals for directions or best place to go. Guides will not show you true side of the place you go to. 6. Finally. Do not over plan. Be spontaneous. It is always better to be surprised in a good way than nervously check your watch all the time.

My advice is really basic but very imoirtant in these dangerous times, Be early, have plenty of time for a coffee or a mooch around the shops.. Understand that the people working hav everybodies safety as thei paramount concern so try to make it as seamkess as possible.. Give a hand or sttike up a conversation with someone as it cists nothing to be nice, but also jnow when to shut up as sime people may be nervous

Lots of complicated motorway junctions so if you are not familiar with the area, it is a good idea to have a sat-nav. Also plan to stop off at a garage with a car wash just prior to returning your vehicle (took us 5 attempts to find one) since the car needs to be returned clean.
