Driving in Seville

The Old City of Sevilla with extra narrow streets, a kaleidoscope of road signs, tiny parking spots, and characteristic local driving may be quite a stressful part of town so keep that in mind. Everything around is much more accessible with wide roads and clear signing. Once you're out of the city you can enjoy an idyllic and diverse Andalusian countryside that is a pure pleasure to ride through.

Attention is required at all times when manoeuvring through Sevilla because Spanish driving may be rather rapid at times and you should be able to predict all the manoeuvres beforehand. Always adhere to the traffic rules and don't park where it's prohibited, the fines are a real deal in Spain and can get quite high.

Make sure that you find your way back to the airport. If you have a GPS locaton or phone, don't forget to mark that to memory on our device. Couldn't find the address in my Garmin device, but I found it in my android phone and was able to locate it.

The Seville Airpor is not too large. All rental car kiosks on bottom floor by exit. Right outside door is parking of all the different rental cars, so not far to travel. There is a Dropbox near the parking stalls for after hours returns. Free luggage trolleys take advantage they are very helpful in hauling your luggage!

Have an international driver’s license to rent the car; you can get one from AAA. Waze works in Spain, so no need for a GPS. Parking can be tight and streets narrow, so a compact car is best. Highways are easy to navigate but local roads have a lot of round-abouts, which could take some getting used to depending on where you are from. Use the car for longer traveling, ie: between cities or major locations. Uber and/or taxis are a better bet in the cities due to traffic and tight streets. Request an automatic car for rental in advance, as most cars are stick shift.

Sevilla is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, the surrounding areas and towns to the south on the coast are fantastic. If you like Spanish cuisine, the town of Puerto de Santa Maria is famous for the best hake you will ever taste. Further inland Arcos and Medina are beautiful villages to visit. The views from Arcos are second to none. Enjoy!
