About Car Hire at Palma de Mallorca Airport

Mallorca is one of the best places in Europe if you're looking for superb beaches, scenic coastline, picturesque old towns, and a true escape in the Mediterranean ambience. It is here that you find the historic brilliance of Palma de Mallorca, the UNESCO-protected peaks of Serra de Tramuntana, the unlimited blue coves, and amazing cuisine.

Palma de Mallorca Airport is how you enter the island. With millions of tourists coming yearly, it is among Spain's busiest. If you're looking for a car hire, you're in the right place. The distances on Mallorca are short, the drives are extremely beautiful, and the choice of car hire companies is comparable to Spanish big cities. It is located just 8 kilometres away from Palma de Mallorca city centre, and literally right next to the holiday towns of Ca'n Pastilla and Ses Cadenes.

When it comes to the car hire at Palma de Mallorca Airport, you've got a nice choice of operators to go with. The well-knowns like Sixt, Europcar, Hertz-Thrifty, Avis-Budget are there and so are the local companies such as OK Mobility and Record Go. Use HolidayCars.com to find the cheapest car hire and book it in advance for a hassle-free experience when you land.

Car Hire in Palma de Mallorca

You always have an option to go with the car hire in the city of Palma de Mallorca. There are independent local companies like luxury car supplier Bering Cars, or Mallorca Car Hire Company with offices in the city centre. Another epicentre of offices (Avis, Europcar) can be found in the area of the port of Palma de Mallorca. While you can find cheaper options with rental companies, it's generally recommended to book in advance to avoid unnecessary confusion and stress on the ground with hidden fees and insurance discrepancies.

Driving in Mallorca

This island is with no doubt a dream when it comes to being on the road. Dramatic landscapes of mountains meeting the sea, excellent infrastructure, short distances. Mallorca is a Balearic paradise for driving lovers and hiring a car here allows you to reach all the places at your own pace, without having to deal with public transport schedule conundrums.

Still, be attentive on the road, use a seat belt at all times and watch out for speedy drivers. As the island is favoured by many, car hire is a popular way to see the points of interest so you can expect inexperienced drivers hitting the road too. Just keep calm, adhere to the rules, and enjoy your smooth-riding experience there.

Some extra tips to help you when driving on Mallorca:

Car Hire Agencies in Palma de Mallorca Airport

As Mallorca is an island it is generally more comfortable to go with the airport car hire companies to have a smoother check-in and check-out process. The majority of well-known suppliers (Sixt, Hertz) are located in the baggage reclaim hall of the airport so you can book in advance with HolidayCars.com and take the keys right after arrival. For cheaper options, there are Click & Rent and Centauro. Be aware that they are not located in the airport proper, there's a Meet & Greet system with a free shuttle bus taking you to their location a short drive away from the airport.

If you're looking for a local-operated alternative to big names, there are Terry’s Car Hire and Hasso offering low-cost options. Their offices are located nearby the airport, but you would still have to take a shuttle bus to reach them.

Top Road Trips from Palma de Mallorca Airport

The magnificent island of Mallorca is made for road trips. Get to the heart of the stunning Tramuntana range heading to the picturesque village of Andratx, continuing to traditional Estellencs and Valldemossa enjoying the curved roads and an abundance of mountain views. For expansive sea panoramas, the journey to Mirador Es Colomer and Platja de Formentor is a must stopping in Port de Pollença and Alcúdia along the way.

If beaches are your goal, you can find plenty of pristine hidden coves waiting for you on the eastern coast of Mallorca. The car will easily take you to such stunners as Caló des Borgit, a spectacular Natural Park of Mondragó and the fantastic Caló del Moro.

Another essential Mallorcan experience is driving the snake-like Nus de Sa Corbata on the way to ultra-scenic Sa Calobra village with a great beach and Torrent de Pareis canyon hike nearby.

The airport is highly oraganised and easy to access, but I would suggest you arrive early when you fly out because the airport is bigger than the standard regional airport and houses nice shops!

The layout, design, of the rental cars booths in the airport are so logical. This was my first time seeing a double sided booth and it is extremely practical and secure. There was more seating, as well as vending machines on the other side so the entire family or party does not have to wait inside the secured restricted access. They can exit and see the rental occur from the other side. There is a lot to experience on Mallorca and with a personal vehicle can leave Palma and take a different route each day to explore the island. Trips to Valldemossa & Deia, Soller & Port de Soller, Inca & Cap de Formentor, Monte Cristo & Randa all offer beautiful scenery. It is best to plan to start the day early and plan your trip according to where you want to see the sunset. There are many breathtaking views from pull-off points and hidden restaurants. The Bellver Castle ruins are also beautiful offering breathtaking views of Palma and Le Seu and the Palma boardwalk has rock outcroppings which allow you to get even closer to the water.

Great Time of the year weather was fantastic. When to Sóller and went on the train and tram. Beautiful old tram and train from the early 1900s. Drove up to Valldemossa very pretty village, with tree lined streets. Very old world. Palma was busy and hard to park. The market in Palma was well worth the visit. Loved having the car to get to all these great places.

Go visit many of the incredible 'hidden' beaches off the grid, but do so very early in the morning (be there between 7 and 8). Then you will have the beach for yourself and you will be able to take great pictures. any time after 10am, they all fill up with tourists and get crowded.

The northwest coast of Mallorca is an amazing drive. Small villages from Soller, Deia, Valldemossa, Banyalbufar, and Estellencs are wonderful to visit. And the landscape is awe inspiring. The infrastructure in impressive, the architecture incredibly well maintained, and the restaurants even in the smallest villages deliver an impressive high quality cuisine. On this coast you will find largely rocky beaches, with the fantastic backdrop of the mountains. Head northwest for a private swim in wild nature surroundings. Or simply pack a cooler for the best picnic lunch imaginable.

Nice airport but very limited eating before you go through to the gate. Only sandwiches etc or a German sausage bar. Once through the gate options vary, but closure times are early. Don't expect to eat well if you have a late flight. Reasonable shopping. Consider booking on-site car hire to avoid queues off-site at cheaper options.

If you are travelling as a couple, one of you should get straight to the car hire desk. Get a turn ticket even before you get your baggage. Tell others that they might need a ticket also. Kindness is good for the soul! Also, think about getting annual hire car insurance cover before you leave Britain. It may work out a lot cheaper than getting the add-on insurance at the desk. When driving in Mallorca, you are likely to come across many cyclists, some of whom are in "race" mode. Give them plenty of room, as the Mallorcans do. You don't want any scratches on that hire car!

The old town of Palma is fantastic. The public bus lines are well covering the island and especially the Palma area. The scenery roads (well marked in the map) are worth driving. The views are beautiful and the roads mainly on good condition. Soller is a good place to visit and easy to reach. Formentera in the north is fantastic, but there you need a full day to get the best out of it. The advise to turn the car side mirrors in is absolutely to be followed.

Palma airport has very long ways to walk, there are a lot of ups and downs espcially when you come from the parking deck. So calculate enough time before departure. 2hours or more. We even got stuck in the elevator for 20 min until help came. In Palma try the coffee factory near placa mallor:various good coffee types, nice waitors and interesting toilettes. The arabic baths in the old town is only worth the 2.50€ fee if you want to sit in the yard for a rest or a picnic.
