About Car Hire at Barcelona International Airport

Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, sits on the eastern coast of Spain. It is one of the most visited cities in Europe, thanks to its exciting and diverse cultural offerings, including restaurants, museums, and bars. Those who like both greenery and beautiful, winding roads to exciting new experiences will feel right at home here. Barcelona offers something for everyone, whether it's seeing the works of Pablo Picasso at the museum or visiting the iconic Sagrada Familia, which has been under construction since 1882. A hire car is the best way to see all of these attractions.

Barcelona International Airport (BCN), about 12 kilometres from the city centre, serves as the principal entry point to Barcelona. Besides being Spain's second-largest airport, it's also the country's second-busiest. In 2019, the airport handled approximately 52 million passengers. Popular carriers that operate out of Barcelona include American Airlines, Austrian Airlines, EgyptAir, KLM, and Singapore Airlines. Vienna, Singapore, Cairo, New York, and Amsterdam are among the most popular foreign destinations served by airlines departing from Barcelona.

Upon landing at Barcelona International Airport, you'll find a wide selection of car hire companies ready to supply you with the vehicle you desire. You may pick up your hire car at one of the airport's two locations. When you go to Terminal 1, find the car hire kiosks on the ground level, directly across from the baggage claim area. If you are arriving at Terminal 2, car hire agencies are conveniently located at Terminal 2B, next to the main exit and the customs area. Avis, Alamo, Inter Rent, Ok Rent A Vehicle, and Sixt are among the most well-known car hire companies with counters at the Barcelona International Airport. Once you tell them what you need and how much you want to spend, they'll find you the perfect vehicle.

Downtown Car Hire in Barcelona

The public transportation system in Barcelona is quite well developed, with over 230 bus routes, metros, and taxis. Having your own automobile, however, is the most convenient mode of transportation if you value personal time with your loved ones or if your schedule does not align with that of public transportation. Don't fret if you decide not to pick up your hire car at the airport. You can always do so in the centre of Barcelona. Furthermore, hiring a vehicle in the city may save you money since prices change between the city and the airport. Furthermore, airports typically have limited parking space. Thus, you may have a wider selection of makes and models to choose from when you hire a car downtown. Find a car that can easily fit everyone and everything you need, whether you're a party of two or a large group.

In contrast to many other nations, vehicles in Spain drive on the right and pass on the left. Here are some guidelines for safe driving to keep in mind on your road trips:

Top Road Trips from Barcelona

Road trips are an excellent way to see Barcelona and beyond. So, after you're ready to go farther into Spain and explore the off-the-beaten-path routes, consider visiting these places:

If crossing into another nation is your idea of a road trip, it is also doable! Andorra is a small country near Barcelona. Andorra, located in the Pyrenees mountains, is a hiking and trekking paradise. The roads here are crooked and winding, leading you to breathtaking views no matter where you go. It is also well-known for its natural baths and spas, which might come in handy after a hard day of trekking in the heat.

The Catalan mountain range of Montserrat is rich in historical and ecological attractions. The jagged peaks are visible from afar, making it simple to locate this area. If you're looking for a mountain to climb, Sant Jeroni is 1,236 metres above sea level and is the tallest peak in these highlands. You may hike to the peak, and there are other routes you can explore as well.  Other things to visit in the area include the Basilica, which houses the Virgin of Montserrat, Catalonia's patron saint. You can reach Montserrat from Barcelona in approximately an hour by heading northwest.

The winemaking industry in Catalonia revolves around the Penedès area, which produces the most wine of any region and the widest range of wine varieties. Red, white, and rose wines of varying levels of dryness and sweetness, as well as sparkling wines, may be found here. The views of rolling hills and verdant fields are reason enough to make the trip, but there are plenty of wineries and vineyards to explore while you're there as well. Less than an hour's drive west of Barcelona will get you to this area.

Barcelona is a very walkable city. Rent your car when leaving Barcelona for other cities in Spain. We really enjoyed the Gothic section of town. The architecture in the Eixample section is completely awe inspiring. Do not miss Sagrada Familia a tour is a MUST. Casa Batllo also a do not miss.
