Cheap Car Hire Arrecife airport

Explore Lanzarote by car and you’ll be introduced to its expansive scenery, volcanic landscape, and traditional towns. There are 300 volcanic cones, making it one of the largest lava hotspots in the world. Fascinatingly, the wondrous Timanfaya National Park is said to be akin to the surface of the moon. Photos of the area were actually sent to Apollo so they could get an idea of the kind of landscape they would encounter on the moon. But it’s not all dry, luna landscapes. There are lush palm-tree-filled valleys, gorgeous beaches (that are usually all to yourself), and secret lagoons.

However you spend your time in Lanzarote, you’ll love discovering its raw natural beauty on four wheels. While the island is small (you can drive the length is around an hour), there are scenic drives aplenty. From the cultural and historical sights of the north to the beaches of the south, there is so much to explore.

About Car Hire in Lanzarote Airport

Lanzarote Airport is the only commercial airport on the island, located around 3 miles from the capital, Arrecife. It’s also known as César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport, which pays tribute to César Manrique, an artist, sculptor, and nature activist from the island. It flies to over 80 destinations by 39 airlines, so it is a major hub for European travel. There are two terminals, Terminal 1 is primarily used for international flights while Terminal 2 serves domestic flights, mainly across the Canary Islands.

Hiring a car at Lanzarote Airport is a breeze, especially with the help of Holiday Cars. You’ll find the car hire agencies in the Arrivals hall of both terminals, although there are more in Terminal 1. Some car hire agencies, like Sixt, are located off the airport. If that’s the case, a shuttle bus will be arranged. When you book with Holiday Cars, we will send you all the information you will need so you’ll never be left in the lurch. Trust us with your car hire needs and we’ll deliver unbeatable deals and excellent service.

What to do near Lanzarote Airport

Lanzarote is not a big island, so the island’s top attractions are never far from reach. Here are some of the best things to do near Lanzarote Airport:

Parque Nacional de Timanfaya: This Parque Nacional is Lanzarote’s most show-stopping sight. There are tonnes of hikes to take in the park, including up the Mountains of Fire. The arid landscape is almost entirely without plant or animal life, except for the lichen that you can see in the park.

Go to the beach: The island is encircled by a golden coastline. Soak up the Canary sun and take a dip in the cooling sea. Honda Beach is the closest to Lanzarote Airport, but Playa de Papagayo is considered the best on the island.

Enjoy Lanzarote cuisine: Get your fill of the delicious local food before or after your journey. Some of the quintessential Lanzarotean dishes include papas arrugadas (potatoes) served with mojo sauce, sancocho (fish stew), and grilled octopus.

Museo Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo: Get your culture fix with a visit to Lanzarore’s contemporary art gallery. It houses a major contemporary art collection, and the building itself is an 18th-century beauty.

Easy checkin process. Located on the arrivals floor (Ground floor) so easy to checkin walk across the road to colletion point. Easy collection process. Laid back collection asked to check car over note any defects and return to desk. When returning ensure you get into the arrivals lane to drive to the lower area of the car park. Return process straight forward.

Make sure you leave plenty of time between arriving at airport to return car and flight departure. While the process was very efficient you still to factor in some wait time. Get a receipt from gas station to show you have refuelled the car. We asked the attendant to fill to full, which he did, however there was a fault with the gauge on the car meaning the needle was slightly below the line. Fortunately the Hertz staff were very reasonable and I was able to show we had refuelled just a few minutes beforehand by showing them the gas receipt. In general, driving in Lanzarote is very easy and enjoyable. Just be careful and take it gently on some of the windy, steep routes as not all of them have crash barriers!

We like to have a paper confirmation with the instructions as this allows you to follow the instructions more easily. If you are confused ask for help - airport staff is friendly and helpful to foreigners . There was someone from the tourist bureau handing out maps - again helpful.

Rent a car is a must, for a hotel I can advise Princesa Yaiza, we loved it! Timanfaya National Park it's a priority , there you have a spectacular view over Las montañas de fuego. You can also try to ride a camel , Will cost you around 12€ the camel , a ride for 2 during 20 minutes. Playa Blanca is our favorite village , with a beautiful Marina and a lot of stores and restaurants. The only underwater museum for divers it's something to enjoy to. There is a very nice zoo, some museums, like the House of José Saramago ( the literature nobel awarded writer). Above all a perfect holidays destination!

The integrity of the island is so well expressed by the Cesar Manrique House and it's informative lay-out. The Omar Shariff house in Nazareth is well worth a visit. The island is wonderful for sun and chill-out, however is somewhat limited for cultural activity. The food was very good and service very friendly in the restaurants, however, as an avid cook I found the inability to purchase fresh fish for home cooking a sad frustration.

The old town is much, much nicer than the more brash, touristy area where we stayed. Restaurants in the old town are far superior and actually much cheaper but much better food. Even if you're not staying in the old town I would recommend getting a taxi (about €4) to eat and drink-the views are amazing and the atmosphere is buzzing without being loud and lairy!
