There are many tourist attractions in Marrakech, and it is an excellent city to visit for those interested in history. The Medina of Marrakech is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, founded in the 1070s and has been an important part of the city ever since.
Because of its close proximity to the desert, there are also many excursions available for desert exploration – these include camel rides into the desert, a hot air balloon ride or even exploration via quad bikes.
The Majorelle Garden harks back to the French colonial era in Morocco, and offers an insight into colonial life in the city – it is also a sanctuary for local birds and other wildlife.
A trip to the country’s capital (Rabat) is possible from Marrakech, and this journey takes around three and a half hours. While a fairly long journey, it is also a scenic one.
You could also take a trip to the Atlas Mountains, perfect for nature lovers or those who enjoy hiking – the Atlas Mountains offer some of the finest views in North Africa, so these are definitely worth checking out.
Slightly closer (around two and a half hours away from Marrakech) are the Ouzoud Waterfalls. These are the highest waterfalls in North Africa and are home to beautiful olive groves – a real picture-perfect destination.
Around 40 minutes from Marrakech is Agafay – part of the desert known for its enormous sand dunes and natural oases – perfect for refreshing yourself after a long day of exploring and outdoor activities.
Finally, you can even reach Africa’s Atlantic Coast from Marrakech in less than three hours, meaning you can explore some of the local beaches or simply take in the fresh sea breeze and eat some lovely seafood at the same time.
