About Car Hire at Bordeaux International Airport

Bordeaux is well-known around the globe for its exceptional wine production. You'll find a wide variety of wines here, from the most affordable to the most lavish. Aside from wine, there are many more reasons to visit Bordeaux. This municipality holds the global record for the biggest urban UNESCO World Heritage Site. Furthermore, it has the second-highest number of protected buildings in the nation, after only Paris. Bordeaux has lots of natural beauty to offer its guests, including scenic coasts, pine woods, and sand dunes. Without a doubt, the best way to experience the wonders of wine country is by hired car.

Bordeaux International Airport (BOD) serves the city of Bordeaux and southern France as its principal gateway. The community is around 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) from the airport. In 2019, around 7.7 million passengers were served by this airport. This airport serves almost 20 major airlines. Ryanair, British Airways, Air Algerie, KLM, Brussels Airlines, and Luxair are among them. Flights from Bordeaux to Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Budapest, Amsterdam, Algeria, and Dublin are among the most popular destinations.

Bordeaux International Airport has two terminals. Terminal 1 handles international flights, while Terminal 2 handles local flights. Regardless of which terminal you arrive at, proceed to the terminal exit, where the main car hire firms are located directly alongside the car park. Avis, Budget, Europcar, Goldcar, Enterprise, Loca Malin, Sixt, and Hertz are the largest car hire companies in Bordeaux. You may hire any vehicle, depending on your budget and demands, including small family sedans, sports cars, luxury cars, and even premium SUVs.

Downtown Car Hire in Bordeaux

Bordeaux's public transportation system consists of buses and trams, which are rather reliable in and around the city. However, it does not cover the whole region. Furthermore, if you're travelling for an important conference or a honeymoon, you do not want to rely on public transportation and risk being stranded. Don't be concerned if you don't hire a vehicle at the airport. Hiring a vehicle in town may potentially save you money. Given the limited availability of parking at most airports, you may even have a wider selection of makes and models to pick from. A modest family vehicle or a sedan will work for a party of two to four people. If you have a lot of luggage, however, it is advisable to rent a mid- or full-size SUV so that you and your stuff can fit comfortably.

Top Road Trips from Bordeaux

Road trips in your own car are the best way to discover Bordeaux and the surrounding areas. A road trip may take you to beautiful beaches, towering castles, and wine tastings. Here are some places we recommend:

Drive to St. Emilion, which is around 40 kilometres from Bordeaux. This whole town is a standout due to its wine production and 13th century architecture. It also boasts a Romanesque city wall and the magnificent Eglise monolith, which is nothing short of a feast to see. This monolith is unique in that it was carved from limestone in the 12th century and continues to stand tall today. Other things to do in St. Emilion include horseback riding and just meandering around.

Toulouse, the pink town, is around three hours from Bordeaux. Because the majority of the buildings in this city are composed of red bricks, it has earned the moniker "La Ville Rose" or "Pink City." Visit the Pont Neuf bridge for sunset, which is the world's oldest bridge. If you get to Toulouse early enough, you may be able to see the UNESCO World Heritage Basilica of St. Sernin de Toulouse. When you're hungry, try a cassoulet. It is the region's most popular meal, made with white beans and pork.

The Dune du Pilat, which is almost 1.5 miles in length and 328 feet in height, makes for a fantastic day excursion from Bordeaux. Situated around 40 miles from Bordeaux, it’s an easy road trip option. If you want to ascend the Dune du Pilat, there is also a convenient stairway with 168 steps that is set up every year from the end of May until the beginning of November. After you ascend Europe's tallest sand dune, take a deep breath of the brisk sea air and the pungent pine forest aroma. Tempted to go for a swim in the sea? Relax on the beach by sliding down the Dune du Pilat's ocean-facing slope.
