The city does have its own international airport, but Abbotsford Airport isn’t the biggest airport. Especially when compared with other major city airport in Canada, Abbotsford Airport is a lot smaller. Despite that, there are several excellent choices when it comes to hiring a car. You’ll mostly find big name, reputable brands here - Enterprise, Avis, Hertz, and for more wallet-friendly firms, you have Budget and Thrifty.
Although it’s convenient, hiring a car at the airport tends to come with additional fees and charges. To avoid those extra charges, you can choose to hire a car in the city. There are a few options, but it’s not a long list. Not far outside the airport, you have Clearway Car & Truck Rentals, which is a local and independent car firm. Cruising around British Columbia in a truck would be pretty cool and this is a popular choice for those who want to try out driving on rough terrain. You’ll find more options in Langley Township, which is around a twenty-five minute drive away from the airport. There are well-known companies like Hertz and Enterprise as well as smaller, local firms like Aldergrove and Canadian Car and Truck Rental.
For something different, hiring an RV or a camper van is a popular way to see Abbotsford and the rest of British Columbia with its abundance of road trip possibilities. Get-Away RV Centre is just a five minute drive from the airport - it’s basically a one-stop-shop, pick up your transportation and your accommodation in one go!
Abbotsford spreads across 145 square miles, the largest city by area in British Columbia. So, it’s pretty tricky to get around without a car. Plus, there’s nothing like taking to the open road in Canada. The smooth, wide spread roads and out-of-this-world vistas makes the journey just as enjoyable as the destination. And exploring this beautiful city, the surrounding villages, and the area’s pristine lakes is much easier when you’re going by your own time on your own schedule.
For road trips in Abbotsford, you’re spoilt for choice. British Columbia is known for its beautiful road trips, and Abbotsford is no different. If you're really after an adventure, the Sea to Sky highway is famous for its incredible views off the cliffside highway. It’s a total stretch of 234 miles and starts off in Vancouver, which is just over an hour away from Abbotsford, so it’d be a road trip across a few days rather than a day trip. If a day trip is more your thing, we highly recommend exploring the Fraser Valley. You can drive from one end of the Valley to the other in around two hours, so it’s the perfect day trip from Abbotsford. Be sure to account stopping off to take in the beautiful scenery and swimming in the Fraser River (weather permitting!) when planning your trip.
